What happened to LinkedIn Hashtag Analytics extension?

I think I should’ve chosen quirkiness over practicality…

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who has reached out to us about our extension… or lack thereof.

It’s been hectic, but I know I owe you an explanation.

As you’ve probably guessed it, LinkedIn Hashtag Analytics extension got taken down from the Chrome store.

I named my extension “LinkedIn” Hashtag Analytics because that’s what it did. It gave its users data on hashtags, specifically LinkedIn’s. Not Instagram. Not Twitter. Not Facebook.

Not to mention, my extension hasn’t even been around for a year, and I’m not taking money from my users.

I already had plans to forego the name “LinkedIn” Hashtag Analytics when I saw how much traction we were getting.

… But it so happened that LinkedIn was quicker to act.

It’s standard practice – big techs like LinkedIn have automations in place, namely ones that protect their trademark, so people don’t go around using their name carelessly. Google has the right to take down any small content creator’s work on its platform without any forewarning.

It’s not unusual.

It’s a good lesson, though – we’re a small team of developers, and we’ve only been obsessed with building as many free tools as we can for our supporters.

Now that we have a better understanding of the landscape we’re navigating, we’ve just got to be more cautious from now on.

We’ll let you know when the new extension’s up!

My team and I are working around the clock and are in the process of re-submitting a new extension with all the features of our old LinkedIn Hashtag Analytics extension.

I hope you stay tuned and thank you so much for your support!

P.S. Just realised we’re all hopeless at coming up with names. Help on this is very welcome. 🤣
